The County Government of Machakos, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering clean, safe, and reliable water to all residents. This commitment was underscored today during a Stakeholders Engagement Forum held at Githunguri Jetview Primary School in Muthwani Ward, Mavoko Sub-County.
Representing the Governor, Hon. Onesmus Kuyu, CECM for Water, Irrigation, Environment, Sanitation and Climate Change, led the discussions centered on the progress of the Utawala–Githunguri last-mile water pipeline extension. The project is being implemented by the Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company (MavWASCO) in partnership with the Athi Water Works Development Agency.
A major highlight of the forum was the formation of a Project Management Committee (PMC)—a crucial structure that will guide, coordinate, and oversee the project throughout its implementation. This collaborative approach ensures strong community participation, accountability, and efficient delivery.
Once completed, this transformative project will supply clean and consistent water to over 10,000 residents, spanning Kincar, MC, Zebra, Standard Road, Githunguri, and Airways estates. For thousands of households, the pipeline extension will bring an end to years of water scarcity, marking a significant leap toward improved health, sanitation, and overall quality of life.
Hon. Kuyu was joined by the Chief Officer for Water and Irrigation, Benedict Ngumbau, alongside technical officers from the department. Together, they reaffirmed the County Government’s unwavering dedication to expanding water access and championing development that directly improves the daily lives of Machakos residents.
